Adobe CS6 plug-ins for Suitcase Fusion 4 now available
June 13th, 2012 by Jim Kidwell
Today we are happy to announce that new Suitcase Fusion 4 font auto-activation plug-ins are available for Adobe CS6 applications. Supported applications include Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and InCopy.
Additionally, Adobe InDesign and Illustrator CS6 get access to the new Extensis Font Panels directly within each application. These panels allow you to preview and activate fonts without ever opening the main Suitcase Fusion application. Learn more about Suitcase Fusion 4.
If you have already purchased Suitcase Fusion 4, this is a free update.
The update can be installed by downloading the latest installers from the Suitcase Fusion support page, or by using the Check for Updates feature.
To download via the “Check for Updates” feature:
- Launch Suitcase Fusion 4
- Choose Suitcase Fusion 4 > Check for Updates (Mac) or Tools > Check for Updates (Windows) 3. Download and install the update.
Install the new plug-ins using the Plug-in manager by:
- Choose Suitcase Fusion 4 > Manage-Plug-ins (Mac) or Tools > Manage Plug-ins (Windows)
- Enable plug-ins for supported applications.
NOTE: Extensis is working with Adobe to resolve a Photoshop CS6 issue that is affecting font auto-activation. We will make a new Photoshop CS6 plug-in available as soon as issue has been resolved by Adobe. Adobe CS5 & 5.5 plug-ins remain functional for Photoshop.
For full operating system and supported application compatibility, please see the Suitcase Fusion Compatibility Guide.

I am seriously thinking about purchasing this program as it looks great, but I can not see the cs6 palletes in the trial. I want to see how it works before I purchase. Is there a way I can download it to try it out without having to purchase the full version first?
After installing, in the source application (InDesign or Illustrator) Choose Window > Extensions > Extensis to display the new font panels.
If you still don’t see them, be sure that the plug-ins are actually installed by using the plug-in manager in Suitcase Fusion. Choose Suitcase Fusion > Manage Plug-ins (Mac) or Tools > Manage Plug-ins (Windows) to enable & disable plug-ins.
I do have a similar problem. In the Plug-In-Manager there is no Photoshop CS6 listed. Illustrator and InDesign C6 work fine, but no Photoshop.
Yes, we are still working with Adobe to resolve an issue that is preventing us from creating a working plug-in for Photoshop CS6. As soon as Adobe integrates a fix, we’ll be able to build a workable plug-in for you.
Suitcase Fusion 4 does not open in InDesign CS6 for me. The SF4 plug-in directory says “Adobe InDesign CS6 Application Not Found”.
When checking for updates, it says I’m up to date! “SF4 15.0.1.453 is currently the newest version available. My tech support department has confirmed that the plug in is installed properly. Do you have a suggestion as to how we can fix this problem? I’d appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you!
Hi,
I cannot enable/disable the Plug-in for Adobe Indesign CS6 through the Tools>Manage Plug-Ins.
It says ” Application not found ” and is grayed out.
I have the latest update installed.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
-Jose
Hi Tina,
Sorry that you’re having issues. I recommend closing InDesign CS6, then in Suitcase Fusion open the plug-in manager (suitcase Fusion > Manage Plug-ins on Mac or Tools > Manage Plug-ins on PC). You can then check to enable the appropriate CS6 plug-in from that menu. You will need to have administrative privileges on your machine and authenticate to install the plug-in. You can then re-open InDesign CS6. To view the new Extensis font panel, in InDesign go to Window > Extensions > Extensis to display the panel.
If none of this works, please contact our support team. They are happy to help. http://www.extensis.com/support
Hi Jose,
That’s odd that you wouldn’t see it in the list of plug-ins. I’m not sure what could cause this. Please contact our support team to diagnose. http://www.extensis.com/support
Hi. I have some problems with Illustrator CS6 auto activation. I installed plugins using Plugin Manager. I can see Suitcase Fusion 4 under Type menu. But only Select Library and About… sections are active, others are all greyed out. My fonts do not auto activate when opening a Illustrator document. I use 15.0.2 ver. of SF4. Have any idea what could be the problem is?
Hi Volkan. Not exactly sure what’s going on with your installation. The Type>Suitcase Fusion 4 menu should have many more options. Also, if you choose Window > Extensions > Extensis, that should display the new Extensis font panel. If you are still having issues, please contact support directly to diagnose the issue. http://www.extensis.com/support
Any update of when the Photoshop CS plugin will be released?
Still waiting for Adobe to release an update to fix the blocking issue. When that happens, we will release updated plug-ins as soon as possible.
Is it possible after 4 months there is no support for the most diffused graphic platform in the planet like Photoshop CS6? This is the reason why people does not buy original software!!!
Noticing some issues today: I’m updating some old InDesign files that use certain fonts—Helvetica Neue (PostScript) and Minion Condensed (PostScript). These fonts wouldn’t auto-activate (conflict with system fonts? I know Mac OS X has Helvetica Neue and Minion Pro), so I activated them manually and Command-Tabbed back to InDesign to do a Find Font and update the file… but the fonts were still not available in InDesign. It wasn’t until I quit and relaunched InDesign that they became available. Sigh…
Oh, forgot to mention: I’m using InDesign CS6.
And now my Trade Gothic and ITC Century fonts are not auto-activating in an IDCS6 file that I just worked on yesterday.
Think it’s time to restart this computer…
Well, I guess that seemed to fix it. Not sure what’s different between restarting now and when I booted the machine up a couple hours ago. *shrug*
Hi Marco, As mentioned earlier, this is due to a bug in Adobe Photoshop CS6, not a bug in Extensis software. We are working directly with Adobe to address the issue and as soon as they release a public update we will release a Photoshop CS6 plug-in. Thanks for your patience.
Brian, not sure what’s going on here. If you see the issue in the future, please go ahead and contact our support team directly at http://www.extensis.com/support and they will help diagnose the issue. Help is always free from our team for supported products.
Hi Jim, I’m upgrading my Adobe suite from CS5 to CS6. Would my current Extensis 12.1.7 work on the new CS6 softwares too? Thanks!
Hi Eve, Suitcase Fusion (v1) 12.1.7 is very old and was never designed to work with newer operating systems and versions of Creative Suite. I would recommend upgrading. For full compatibility, see this guide. http://www.extensis.com/downloads/compatibility-guides/suitcase-fusion-compatibility-guide/
Thanks Jim. It says only people with Suitcase 2 & 3 are eligible for the upgrade price. I assume when you say (v1), that meansI have Suitcase 1? So basically full price for me!
Yes, we give upgrade price for two versions back from the current version.
Hello dear developers,
I’m a Chinese user and I want to have some real support from SF4 since I just couldn’t find any proper fonts in the adobe-given chinese category when I create some pictures in my Photoshop CS6 on my mac. All I can see after importing the fonts I downloaded from some font websites are a lot of “A”s in boxes. So, two things to ask: First, what should I do with my Chinese fonts? I bet there must be some code issue since Chinese characters are not sharing the same machine code as Latin letters are; Second, will you develop a better update to solve the PS CS6 issue? I’m quite eager for that. Thank you very much!
Hi Horch,
It looks like the fonts that you’re adding don’t have any western characters in them, or very limited ones. You can change what characters are used in the preview. Below the preview window is a drop down menu. Choose QuickType from that menu. Click the button next to the menu that looks like a little paragraph. This opens up the preview text customization menu. In this menu, you can enter any character that you want to view in the preview window. I don’t know if there’s a pangram that would hit all of your simpified Chinese characters, but you could at least put in a few characters.
If you’re still ahving issues, please let us know.
Jim
Oops Sorry (hit enter by mistake)
Experiencing all kinds of issues with CS6 programs. Let aside PS CS6 and ID CS6 and focus on AI CS6. Even though I see SF4 under Type – all is greyed out. The same happens on the AI preferences. The floating palette is showing up but the message “This panel was unable to connect to suitcase fusion” does not help either. ANY WORDS OF ADVICE PLEASE?
Hi Andreas. Sounds like something else is going on here. Please contact our support team directly, and they’ll be able to help diagnose the issue. http://www.extensis.com/support
thank.
The issue Andreas is facing has happened on every demo I have installed on every machine (in Illustrator). It’s a pretty big problem. Nobody is going to buy a product if the demo doesn’t work. It works perfectly in Indesign though.
So…permission not granted for me to buy it. They have decided to wait for the new Font Explorer X. I prefer Fusion. Shame.
No point asking me to contact support. I have and was told to buy it. No chance. Plus that is of NO use to people who search for a resolution on Google.
Hi Anoxic. Yes, we’re definitely addressing the issue. Too bad that you won’t be able to use Suitcase Fusion in your work environment. At least at home perhaps you can use the tools that you want.
Thanks for reporting to us. Jim
Hi. I installed Suitcase Fusion 4. When I launch Adobe Illustrator CS6, a message pops up and says;
“Msg: Illustrator.exe – Unable to Locate Component
This application has failed to start because CoreFoundation_v11.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
I click OK and continue. After few seconds, another message pops up and says;
“Adobe Illustrator
Error loading plugins.
ExtensisFontManagementAICS6.aip”
And I click OK again. After Adobe Illustrator CS6 starts, I go to Window > Extensions > Extensis. Extensis window opens and I wait like 20-25 second. But it says; “This panel was unable to connect to Suitcase Fusion.
What is happening and what can I do? Please help.
Thank you..
Tolga
Hi Tolga,
It looks like a part of Suitcase Fusion failed to install properly. Re-run the installer to ensure that all of the components were installed properly. If that doesn’t fix it, please contact support. They will walk you through other steps to diagnose. http://www.extensis.com/support
Any plans for an Adobe Flash plugin?
Thanks for the recommendation. It’s not on the list right now, but we appreciate your suggestion and will put it onto our feature request list.
Yes, please. Flash plug in!
