August 18th, 2010 by Jim Kidwell
Our Product Manager for Fonts and Typography, Thomas Phinney will be in Los Angeles this week at one of the most influential conferences on typography and fonts, Typecon.
He is participating in a couple of events while there, we hope that you get a chance to see him.
Friday, August 20th, 5:15 p.m. – Web Fonts Panel Discussion
To start it out, Thomas is part of a panel discussion on Web Fonts that includes many luminaries from type foundries, web font services and more. He’ll share experiences in developing the WebINK web font service, and how we see web fonts changing the landscape for typography on the web.
Sunday August 22nd, 2:15 p.m. – Typography in Caldecott-Honored Children’s Books
The Caldecott Medal is the top award for American children’s picture books, and the winners are often best-sellers. Thomas Phinney and Dr. Lesley Colabucci studied the typography of the 88 books honored from 1990–2010. Phinney will share their analysis in this presentation, along with some thoughts on the state of typography in books for children in general. The results of their research will also be published later this year in Children & Libraries, a journal of the American Library Association.
