    Web Marketing Manager
  2. How long have you been with Extensis?
    Four years this April
  3. Where is your cog in the Extensis machine?
We have a machine with cog’s? My son will love to see that. I am responsible for getting the content to the website, marketing the site, building the pages, launching the products and yes sending all that Extensis email and more.
  4. What is your favorite Extensis product?
Portfolio! I don’t use too many fonts in my daily web routine so Suitcase is not used that often but I use Portfolio for project tracking and archival needs.
  5. If you were a font, which font would you be?
I would be my own creation…somewhere in between Comic Sans and American Typewriter
  6. What’s at the top of your iPod playlist?
I don’t have an iPod, my seven year old has one but I don’t. But as for music I am very eclectic. Anywhere from Country – Dixie Chicks, Trace Adkins, Keith Anderson – to my standby collection of 80’s tunes – yes I wore argyle socks and loved the stray cats – to something from Live, Limp Bizkit, Evanescense or Norah Jones and more.

  13. What food can you not live without?
    Wine–is that a food?
  14. How are you a weekend warrior?
I kind of go overboard on this one. I am a major home remodeler. I am just finishing up adding 1,000 square feet to our house. I particularly like electrical, trim and tiling but there is nothing like the smell of fresh cut wood and the sound of a pneumatic airnailer
  15. What’s the strangest thing on your desk?
Nothing strange on my desk–everything is normal here–well there is the Captain Morgan Rum and the bottle of wine…hmmm
  16. What is one thing that people don’t generally know about you?
The Sound of Music is my favorite movie of all time.
  17. Which website do you visit daily?
Extensis.com!! Is there another site out there worth visiting daily?
  18. In another life you were…?
Do I have to pick just one of them? My favorite was when I was a bird. Something about soaring in the hills and valleys that is so wonderful.
  19. What’s your ultimate destination?
I haven’t been there yet. Hopefully when I do get there they have a girl who just brings me drinks all day and there is no Internet connection.
  20. What do you want your dying words to be?
Get off my toe you idiot or I did it my way. Hmm I like the first one best.

I recently moved offices – I now have an awesome view of the river here in Portland, and Mount Hood on clear days. My new next door neighbor Cole brought in a Christmas gift he got – a bobble head Dwight:

Bottlehead dwight

Life is good when you have Dwight at work!

Ok, back to localizing resources for our next generation font management product.

Kari and Monica

    Regional Sales Manager
  2. How long have you been with Extensis?
    3 years and 10 months
  3. To how many Extensis products have you been a contributor?
    Only the best…
  4. What is your favorite Extensis project?
Our Customer User Conference in Lake George, New York last year. It was great meeting so many customers in one location and at a beautiful resort in the Adirondack Mountains – Talk about a captive audience in a captivating location!
  5. If you were a font, which font would you be?
Comic Sans, Impact, or Broadway – Whatever font it would have to be in BOLD!
  6. What are your top five desert island CDs?
Thankfully there’s this cool technology now where you can put thousands of songs in one little device… called an iPod. (Does sarcasm work on a blog?) My iPod would have The Beatles, Neil Young, the Moulin Rouge Soundtrack, Sheryl Crow, U2, Imogen Heap, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Queen, Catie Curtis, KD Lang, Barbra Streisand, and tons of songs that I can sing along with – so I can entertain myself while I build my escape raft.
  7. When were you most happy?
The day my daughter was born and the day my son was born.
  8. What is your greatest accomplishment?
What kind of mother would I be if I didn’t say giving birth to two beautiful children — I mean, there’s nothing quite like it. It is quite a strenuous and life changing process.
  9. What is your biggest regret?
Not moving to Hollywood when I was young (I mean younger) to realize my dream to rule the big screen – and where the celebrity magazines would splash the cover of their rags with my name combined with a famous actor’s name – for example had I gone to Tinsel Town and ended up with Johnny Depp – the newsstands would shout “Johnnica Adopts 7th Child from the Brangelina Adoption Agency” or something like that.
  10. What is your biggest passion?
Am I allowed to talk about my biggest passion in a work blog?
  11. What do you like to read?
Everything! I am a voracious reader and I’m usually reading 2 to 3 books at a time — fiction and non-fiction. If it’s a topic I want to know about, or if I want to escape, I’ll pick up a book.

    Family pictures.
  13. What food can you not live without?
Cheese (anything tastes good with melted cheese on top).

Weekend Warrior makes doing my laundry and household chores – while eking out time to spend quality time with my family — sound a lot more exciting than it feels like on Sunday afternoons when it’s already almost over.
  15. Coffee or tea?
Definitely Coffee! Black, strong, coffee with more coffee on the side – and then about 4 Red Bulls before the day is out.
  16. Function or fashion?
    Fashion.
  17. Which website do you visit daily?
    Yahoo News
  18. In another life you were…?
    An Amazon Woman

    Which way to Nirvana?

Macworld dial-log

Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+Share on LinkedInPin on PinterestShare on Reddit

As a software developer, we have limited ability to witness users actually using our products. Software is not like a cell phone or an iPod. We can’t see you walking down the street with it, watch you interact with it and see how it factors into your life. We have to rely on other means of gathering this information- like tradeshows.

Here’s the thing.  I’m so conflicted.  I love tradeshows.  I hate tradeshows.

While filled with the promise of connecting with users, a larger show like Macworld can miss the mark. That elusive user dialogue can get lost in the noise of tens of thousands.  So we’re shaking things up. This time we’re going to ‘dial you in’ to the conversation.

Perception AnalyzerFor the first time we’re integrating a wireless technology to get audience feedback during our presentations. It is a hand-held dial that is used for polling questions among other things. (Officially, the technology is called the Perception Analyzer (PA), but friends just call them ‘dials’.)

If you’ll attend the show, this is your chance to tell us your knowledge level so we can tailor the presentation content on the fly. Plus, we’ve incorporated a nifty game show competition to challenge your smarts.

If you won’t be at the show, just stay dialed-in to Manage This. We’ll give you a sampling of the interesting tidbits shared by our users each day.

Let’s see how this plays out. This may just get me to love tradeshows again.

Macworld or bust

Portland, OregonHere I am sitting at Portland Airport (that’s Portland, Oregon) waiting on my flight. A lot of prep goes in to this one, 4-day event. So we’re approaching the moment of truth. I like this part the least. The work is done, and you’re just waiting.  Sort of like watching glue dry. Will it hold or won’t it? Our crack event team has been on the ground in San Francisco since late last week. I may be delusional, but I’m not stressed (yet).
