Free XTensions software for Suitcase Fusion, Suitcase Server, and Font Reserve Server enable automatic activation of fonts in QuarkXPress 7.
Extensis, a division of Celartem, Inc., and Quark Inc. today announced that Extensis is now offering QuarkXPress 7 XTensions modules for all Extensis font-management products, providing the world?s most advanced font activation and deactivation for QuarkXPress 7. The XTensions software ensures that any time users open a QuarkXPress 7 project, fonts are automatically and accurately activated or deactivated. The modules extend support to the Suitcase Fusion Single User, Suitcase Server X1, and Font Reserve Server 1.7.4 font-management products.
“QuarkXPress continues to be a leading layout and design solution for creative professionals, said Brian Berson, vice president of corporate solutions for Extensis. He added that a key need for QuarkXPress users is the ability to ensure that the same font they designate in a project is activated each time they open the file. “Extensis’ professional font managers equip QuarkXPress users with the only font-management solutions that ensure the correct font will be automatically activated every time, he said.
The ability to automatically activate and deactivate fonts is possible through the power of the Extensis Font Sense technology. Font Sense ensures a smooth workflow by identifying, locating, and activating the exact fonts used in a document. Because of this one-of-a-kind technology, Extensis font managers no longer simply identify fonts by name; they create unique identifiers that guarantee font fidelity. This technology enables Extensis to offer the only font managers that can successfully manage multiple fonts with the same name to ensure that an application can activate the exact version of a font. Font Sense is available in Suitcase Fusion and Font Reserve and allows for true font identification in QuarkXPress documents.
“Font Sense is an ideal complement to QuarkXPress 7, said Richard Pasewark, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Quark. “Extensis and Quark share a desire to improve creative workflows; together these products help design and print professionals move toward an error-free workflow.

Release of digital asset management solution — Portfolio 8 — fuels record sales for Extensis.
Extensis, a division of Celartem Inc., today announced sales for its digital asset management (DAM) solution – Portfolio, have surpassed Extensis’ existing record for quarterly net revenue. Extensis finished the 2005 calendar year with a 39 percent growth over the preceding year for Portfolio sales while increasing the product’s total corporate workgroup revenue 204 percent over the same period.
“Extensis is encouraged by its strong financial performance coming into 2006,” said Kevin Hurst, Vice President of Marketing for Extensis. “We have worked very hard to service the growing needs of creative professionals through the release of Portfolio 8 at the end of last year. Our continued investment and commitment to this market has brought us profitability, gold-standard products and exceptional customer service for our users.”
Extensis purchased the very first digital asset management program, then titled Aldus Fetch®, from Adobe® in1996. After a complete engineering rewrite, the product was re-launched under the Extensis brand as Portfolio. In the past decade, Extensis has added cross-platform parity, engineered a workgroup focused, Server-based solution and has been awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Most recently, Extensis shipped version 8 of the Portfolio product family earning a much-coveted “Best in Show” award at the 2005 MacExpo event in the United Kingdom.
“Celartem is very pleased with Extensis’ dramatic impact on the digital asset management market,” said Carlos Domingo, CEO of Celartem Inc. “Extensis continues to deliver quality products and break sales records. In fact, we have seen the Portfolio product line more than double its annual revenue since we acquired Extensis in 2002.”
Extensis also develops and sells the top selling professional font management products Suitcase Server, Suitcase Fusion and Font Reserve Server. Extensis’ current customers include the cream of the crop in advertising, publishing, services and manufacturing. Suitcase Fusion combines the power of Suitcase and Font Reserve to deliver industrial-strength font management for Mac OS X.
Extensis, a division of Celartem, Inc., today announced Suitcase Fusion, its highly anticipated, next-generation, single-user font manager. Suitcase Fusion integrates the strength and power of the two leading single-user font managers, Suitcase X1 and Font Reserve 3. By combining the much-desired user interface and ease-of-use of Suitcase, the capability and back-end power of Font Reserve, and the inclusion of additional font management capabilities and features, Extensis has created a tool uniquely suited to the needs of creative professionals.
Suitcase Fusion emerges as Extensis’ first product in its next-generation font management software family. Suitcase Fusion is the upgrade path for both Suitcase and Font Reserve stand-alone users, and will allow both sets of users to easily upgrade their existing font databases to Suitcase Fusion.
“When Extensis undertook the task of combining Suitcase and Font Reserve, we went straight to our existing customer base for feedback,” said Halstead York, Product Manager for Font Solutions. “We took the best attributes from both solutions and delivered the Ăśber Font Manager – Suitcase Fusion. As the only solution using Font Sense(TM) technology – we can ensure the highest level of reliability, quality and stability for all Suitcase Fusion users.”
Suitcase Fusion, a Mac OS X, single-user font manager, makes the many hassles of managing fonts effortless by including a central font repository, face level activation, font corruption checking and font identification technology. With Suitcase Fusion, users are provided automatic font activation so that they never have to think about activating the right fonts. By simply opening a document, a user’s fonts are automatically activated by Suitcase Fusion. To meet professional font user’s standards, Suitcase Fusion automatically categorizes fonts by classification, foundries, and font families to provide more font information. Additionally, users can create their own classifications and foundries and change them anytime. Suitcase Fusion also brings working with multiple font previews, collecting fonts for output, and organizing fonts via nested sets and keywords to the level that creative professionals demand.
Suitcase Fusion’s Font Sense technology ensures a smooth workflow by identifying, locating and activating the exact fonts used in a document. Because of this one-of-a-kind technology, Suitcase Fusion goes beyond identifying fonts by name; it creates unique identifiers that guarantee font fidelity. This enables Suitcase Fusion to be the only font manager that successfully manages multiple fonts with the same name while enhancing the capability of an application to activate the exact version of a font. Font Sense is available in all Suitcase Fusion plug-ins and allows for true font identification within QuarkXPress, InDesign and Illustrator documents.
By utilizing Suitcase Fusion’s centralized font repository called the Font Vault, Suitcase Fusion offers an industrial-strength approach for professional font management. The Font Vault is a managed repository that integrates with the Suitcase Fusion database and makes font management predictable and reliable – especially when users have multiple versions of fonts with the same PostScript name. The Font Vault utilizes the Font Sense technology to allow true font identification and professional duplicate font management.
Suitcase Fusion also offers improved font handling through Type Face Activation that allows creative professionals to be more efficient in their daily workflow. Suitcase Fusion automatically splits up font suitcases when fonts are added to the Font Vault. By activating fonts on a typeface level, Suitcase Fusion allows users to be more flexible and enables faster font-activation.
In addition, Suitcase Fusion users will receive a free copy of Morrison Software’s Font Doctor 7 for built-in corrupt font detection and repair. Existing Font Reserve users will also benefit from a separate upgrade application to easily and seamlessly transfer fonts and metadata from the Font Reserve Single user 3.x database to Suitcase Fusion.
